How do I get CANVAS to display to students their grade based on all work (i.e. including zeros), not just work they happened to finish

CANVAS is showing Instructor (me) and students their grades based only on the work they did and isn't factoring in work they failed to do. So if they did one out of ten assignments and got a B on the one assignment they did, they'll see a B as their overall grade when really it's an F. I can see their actual grades if I uncheck a box for that individual student. How can I set up Grades so that students will see the an overall grade that includes work not done and not finished yet?
