How do I use the search people filter in moderate quiz to give additional time to multiple students?

Every semester I have to moderate multiple quizzes to allow additional time for multiple students with accessibility issues. Currently I have to go through a list of 100 student names and check the box for each one, which is complicated by the part where the number of names displayed per page is limited to about 30 per page. So I have to repeat this process for each page display (typically 2-3 pages per quiz), then I have to repeat the entire process about 12-13 more times for each quiz in the class (i.e., 1 quiz per week). 

This process would be much easier to replicate for each quiz if I could use the FILTER in Moderate Quiz to search for "multiple" people instead of just one person at a time. Any Suggestions?

Hi, Philip,

If you are using Classic Quizzes, do you know the students who need assistance ahead of time? If so, you could consider setting up two of the same quiz (perhaps using a question bank so you don't have to start over each time) and assign one to only students who need assistance. That way your Moderate Quiz list would be shorter for that group of students to begin with, and hopefully not cause as much trouble for you.

If this is something you find yourself doing enough and you think you'll continue to be doing it, New Quizzes may be something you could consider, as it will provide you with an improved experience. Not only can you duplicate existing quizzes, but you have better search capabilities. New Quizzes allows you to modify attempts for a student across all quizzes as noted in How do I add assessment accommodations for a student in New Quizzes?  You can also moderate per quiz: How do I moderate a student's assessment attempt in New Quizzes?

Hi Erin,

Thanks for the tips. But it appears that CANVAS does NOT support migrating "question banks” form classic quiz to “item banks” in New Quiz — Is this correct?

Hi, Philip,

Although you cannot move entire question banks from classic quizzes, you can export individual quizzes in the classic format (using the Export Course Content option in Course Settings), and the content in that export can be imported into a specific item bank in new quizzes: How do I import questions from a QTI package into an item bank in New Quizzes?

If you have a classic quiz that includes all the questions from an existing question bank, export that quiz from Canvas into a ZIP file, and import the Zip file into a new item bank per the previously linked instructions, that would be a manual process but it would be a workaround.
