How do students view group announcements? / How to give feedback to groups.

I have split my class into small groups. I want to provide feedback on assignments that are done outside of Canvas. So far I have been doing that by going to the group page (via People), then making an Announcement to the group.
How do students see those group announcements? (Follow-up question: Do they get notified if they have set their notification settings to allow course announcements?)
Perhaps most importantly, is there a better way to get feedback to the student groups? I want them to be able to see a right away, and to be able to refer to it later. (So I don't think an Inbox message is the way to go.)
Please advise.
