How do you make content visible to only certain people?

I am attempting to use Canvas to build some modules for co-curricular experiences, and to develop some professional development modules for faculty and staff as well as student workers. I've been searching for ways to make content visible to only certain people but have been having trouble figuring this out. I've found the the features that allow content to be shown only if they've completed certain modules but I'm hoping there's a way to further differentiate between who can see what content in the course (well, this is actually an organizational site, not bound by term). Any tips? Thank you!

 @cochranm ​, unfortunately this isn't possible right now in Canvas. You can differentiate between who gets access to/can take assignments, quizzes, and discussions, but you can't differentiate content in a course.

I did a quick search and found this feature idea that's similar to what you want - . My recommendation is to comment on why this feature would be useful/helpful for you and up vote it!

It's pretty easy to assign a specific assignment to individual students or an entire course section, but easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for! See if this guide helps - How do I assign an Assignment to an individual student or course section?. Even though it says assignment, it works for Assignments, quizzes, and discussions.

Has there been any new updates with differentiating Content Pages by section over the last 3 years? Or do we have to MacGuyver it with a requirement workaround?

 @jayoder , as far as I'm aware, the only way to differentiate content pages would be by using a Mastery Path's Hack - Hacking Mastery Paths‌

I would also like this feature added.  I sometimes need to make accomodations for students with disabilities, and it's none of anyone else's buisness what I'm doing.  I should be able to keep things like that private for indivdual students and maintain their privacy and keep in line with FERPA regulations.

YES exactly the same issue here - for example, posting an alternate exam - but I can't without everyone else seeing it and asking about it (even if it is locked for them).

I figured out a work around for this. It's a lot but it is working for our co-teaching class so I wanted to share. We have about 20 staff members using the same course from across the state and we need a way for them to see back-end information on how to run parts of the class and other information we don't want our students to see.

Here's what we did: We made a Section called "Teachers" and added all our staff members. We made a Module called "Staff Information" it has to be public so we used a name that would communicate to students whey they can't see it. In the Module requirements for the Staff Information Module we selected "Complete all" and "Students must move through requirements in sequential order" this way they have to complete the first page before they can move to the next. 

The first page of the Module is a quiz that is assigned only the to the "Teachers" section of the class and the quiz has one fill-in-the-blank question that asks for a password. In Module settings we made it so they must complete the quiz and score a 100/100 in order to move forward. If they get the password correct, they can access the next page, if not, they can't (make sure the quiz won't show them the correct answer).  

Although everyone in the class can see the module and it's page titles, they cannot access any of the pages without passing the quiz at the beginning. So far so good, hope this helps folks in a similar situation. 

Note: we have it so students cannot access the "Pages" option on the navigation menu. I'm not sure if this would change anything or not.

Have you seen the new features that Canvas released this past Saturday?  You can now assign pages, discussions, assignments, and even modules to specific people or specific sections within a course.

I know this is an older thread, but you might want to check out the July 20, 2024 Canvas Release Notes because there are a lot of great things that have been released so that you can assign pages, discussions, assignments, and even modules to certain people or specific sections within a course.
