Are you using a paid Canvas account through your school? Or, are you using the Free For Teachers version of Canvas? If you are using a paid Canvas account, you'll probably have to reach out to your school's local Canvas administrator to see if that person can help get the student names changed. I'm not as familiar with how this might work for the Free For Teachers account, though, if that is what you are using. There is this document: Free-for-Teacher Account FAQ - Instructure Community. But, students may be able to change their name on their own...without you needing to do anything on your end.
