[ARCHIVED] How to track Attendance aside from using Roll Call/Attendance Feature

Hi,

We are using Canvas by Elsevier. Some of our Instructors are asking about the Roll Call/Attendance. Our Canvas however, does not support this feature. Is there any other way the instructor can track the attendance of her students without this feature?

Thanks,

Hi  @sheerann_pagura  Welcome to the Canvas Community. Not really; though there is always the tried-and-true method of just doing it yourself in a spreadsheet program like Excel.  That's not as hard as it sounds to set up, because you can easily export the entire gradebook--including student names--from Canvas, as outlined here: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-16545-how-do-i-export-grades-in-the-gradebook .  That will be a CSV file, which can open in any spreadsheet program, and the instructor can remove all extraneous columns and just set up a daily attendance column in there, perhaps inputting a 1 for present and a 0 for absent.  Not ideal, but it's workable.  If they wanted to grade attendance, they could create an assignment like any other assignment and assign a grade to it and manually input the score for it at the end of the term.

Hope this helps a bit!
