Hi, @lori_ingle , taking your last question first, Instructure does not sell individual licenses for Canvas, and 250MB is the hard limit for all Free For Teachers courses.
So turning to possible solutions: 4GB exceeds the course quota that most schools impose on courses; 500MB is the standard limit (see Canvas Account Comparisons PDF). If I were doing this, and assuming your school allows you to use a sandbox course with a course storage limit that exceeds 4GB, I would first create an export package of the full course and then copy the course to the sandbox to investigate the Files space to see what is eating up the storage: it's almost always videos. You can host the videos externally, replace the videos in the course with links to the external site, and remove the videos from Files in the sandbox course.
That should bring the storage limit down to a manageable level. (For context, I used to teach humanities courses for a school that imposed a 500MB limit, yet my total never even got as high as 250MB because I hosted all the memory hogs externally—so it's definitely possible.) You now have an .imscc package of the full course saved to your device that you can use later should you need to use it at a school that allows a course storage of over 4GB, and you can create a second package by exporting the course from the sandbox and importing it into Free For Teachers.
Hope this provides you with some possibilities, Lori. Stay safe, and be well.
