I taught a class in Canvas a few years ago, exported everything I could, now I'm teaching a similar online class at a different institution and I want to import my quiz files. But my quiz files are all .xml files and I can't figure out how to import those. If I could export them as .xml files from Canvas, it seems like I should be able to import the same.
Hi @jrug ...
Back in 2015, I wrote a blog here in the Community called Batch Uploading Quiz Questions with Respondus. Although I am no longer at the Technical College, if I remember correctly, Respondus does accept a few different file types (I believe Word, CSV, and TXT were a few...but I don't recall if XML was in that list). Check the top of page 14 in the linked document for additional file types under "User Guides (PDF)" >> "Canvas" on this webpage:
Respondus 4.0 - Resources - Respondus
I hope this might help a bit.
Does anyone have guidance on how to import an XML file without Respondus 4.0? We do not have that software at our institution. Is there any way to import XML files into Canvas otherwise?
In case anyone else needs this answer and comes upon this page, we had success with these instructions, which I'll copy/paste below.
Here's the official Canvas guide: https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-import-a-quiz-from-a-QTI-package-in-New...
Note that I just helped an instructor export his questions from a New Quiz Build page (three dots > Export ), download the folder from the Exports tab, unzip it, open and edit it in the Notepad app, save and re-zip the folder, then import it with the instructions above, and it worked!
