I noticed in Canvas that the sidebar on the left-hand side is grey for me, but for all my other classmates it's purple (which is one of our school's colors). Is there a way to change this? Grey is boring and I want to represent my university?

Hi Tanya,

The color of the left-hand side menu is set by your university and if your other classmates are seeing this and you're not it's probably do to something locally on your computer. Could be your browser has cached some data that is causing the menu bar not to update or you could be using a browser that is not supported.

Hopefully by clearing your cache and making sure you're using a supported browser version will help you get the menu to show up purple.

 @bneporadny ‌ has a very good point here. It may also be an accessibility setting; do you have any accessibility settings in Canvas, on your browser, or on your computer?

I would also echo the comments from josephclaytonhansen and  @bneporadny .  Something also to check in Canvas...  when you go to your "Account" >> "Settings" page, scroll to the very bottom where you have "Feature Options".  The first row of toggle switches should be "High Contrast UI".  Do you have this turned on or off?  If it is on (green), then you would see a gray global navigation bar (and also, you wouldn't see any school logo at the top left corner of your Canvas environment (above the "Account" button).  But, if you were to turn this off, then you would (hopefully) see the school colors that your Canvas administrators have configured for your school's Canvas environment.
