Let students create their own discussion topic - Default

Is anyone else experiencing this? It looks like the options "Let students create their own discussion topic" is set as default now. It was never set like that before. Is that a global change? It could be a local issue, but I want to check and see if others are running into this...

Hi Tracie,

I don't know of any changes but can say that for as long as I've used Canvas (since 2011) it has been the default for students to be able to create discussion topics.  In fact I remember when it wasn't even an option that could be turned off so I would always train faculty to hide the Discussions navigation item and post discussions through Modules so that students would not be able to create their own discussions.
