Managing hurdle requirements within the Gradebook

It is common in certain Higher Education disciplines to create assessments that are "hurdle requirements" (i.e a student can't pass the course unless they pass the assessment). These are typically work placement requirements, safety requirements, or accreditation requirements. The hurdle might be a pass/fall assessment or a graded assessment where a student needs to get a minimum grade (eg. greater than 60%).

My question is whether Instructure has thought about how assessments (assignments, quizzes) could be recorded in Canvas as hurdles. The gradebook should be able to show that although a student might have passed on other assessments, that they have failed the course because they have failed the hurdle assessment. It's particularly important for enabline grades to go straight from the LMS into the central student record database.

At present Canvas can't know that a student has failed the course because they have failed the hurdle requirement.

Is this something that has been considered?

For reference here's some details on how Monash University have it set up in Moodle: Apply Hurdles in Gradebook - Learning and Teaching: Teach HQ
