My university needs a way to access detailed data from new quizzes. We use a process of pre- and post-testing for program and general education assessment and need to be able to report on specific questions within quizzes. For example, we have a 50 question quiz in a certain course and need to analyze the data from 8 specific questions out of that quiz. Those 8 questions are linked to a certain outcome in our Assessment Software. Our third-party assessment software provider needs access to Canvas LMS APIs that retrieve student responses and grades for each question in New Quizzes.
We need this granular data to determine whether our students are improving from the first to the second time they took a quiz with these same 8 questions, and which questions students consistently answered incorrectly, if any.
It is also important for our third-party assessment software provider to allow us to map certain questions of a quiz to one outcome and different questions on the same quiz to another outcome. Otherwise, we would need to require students to take 2 very small quizzes (5 questions each) instead of 1 normal-sized quiz (10 questions).
The way our assessment process is set up requires this granular analysis of data to inform our curriculum decisions. Using our data in this way is what our accreditors (both institutional and programmatic) want to see us doing.
