Observers seeing discussion posts of all students

I am director of curriculum and we are using Canvas for virtual learning for the first time.

Is there a way to to ensure that observers/parents cannot read discussion posts of all the students in class, only their student(s)?

By default, Observers should not be allowed to see discussion posts. You can check that with your roles at the account or sub-account level.

What user roles and permissions are available in Canvas? 

You raise a good question though: Can Observers have permission to see ONLY their student's contributions? Right now, I believe the answer is no. I think it would be a great feature to support for Observers.

I cannot seem to even find a discussion I created! Where do you view your discussions? I am the teacher of the course. Thank you!
