Is there a way for students to enter Spanish accent marks when inputting their answers to an open-ended question or a discussion board?

Same question for "math type".  For example, is there a way for a student to put "the square root of 21" using the symbol?  New quizzes has a great equation editor for teachers when making the questions.  Didn't know if students had a similar equation editor.  If not this would be a great feature to add.
