[ARCHIVED] Pen annotations require text in comments box

I just learned about annotating with a pen in doc viewer – it's great! However, I noticed that if I don't put any text in the comments box related to an annotation, the annotation disappears. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just the way it works? It takes away a lot of the functionality of written annotations…

When I have a lot of grading that requires hand-written annotations, I usually use my iPad. However, I used my Acer Spin to give annotations a try via a browser. (Thanks for the nudge!) When I used the Free Draw Annotation tool and then added marks on student submission, I noticed I had to press the checkmark in the corner of the marks I made in order for it to save. Do you have that option?
