Quizzes text box 'essay' field gets deselected as students start typing for the first time in the box

In Canvas Quizzes, when students have selected the essay text box (cursor inside, typing indicator), and try to type a letter, they are instantly deselected from the text box. This requires them to reclick the box to type anything.

@Ezra4 Are you referring to how the essay question box expands to include the RCE? That is definitely a pain. If your students wait a moment though, that resizing happens when the page finishes loading and then the essay text entry box does not need to be clicked twice.

@Ezra4 I was unable to recreate this in our instance. May I ask what browser and browser version you are using when this issue arises? Is this happening for all students in your instance?

Yes, it is happening for all students in my class. It also happens in my other Canvas courses/classes too.

@Ezra4 It may be something unique to your instance (possibly because of custom code). I would recommend reaching out to Canvas Support, as they have access to your instance and can provide support beyond what we in the Community can provide.

@Ezra4 I also had a student mention this happened to them (and several of their classmates) on a timed exam recently. Have you reported it to Canvas? I was going to push out a support request and can quote your ticket as well to expedite the situation.

Hi Sorry, I ended up forgetting to do it. 

I will do it now too as other teachers are also having an issue with it.
