Is it my role to Canvas-student? or my role in my job-educator?

I'm not sure I fully understand your question, but I'll try and answer.  In Canvas, everyone is first considered a "user".  When you are added to one or more courses, it is only then that you are assigned a specific role...such as a "Teacher" or a "Student".  Therefore, you could potentially be a "Teacher" in one course and a "Student" in another course...at the same time.  When your account is initially added to your school's Canvas environment as a "user", it is not assigning you at that account level with a "Teacher" or "Student" role.  That only happens at the course level.
