Showing calculated totals in grades

I would like my students to be able to see their total calculated grade as they go throughout the semester. Currently where their grade should be posted there is a comment that says "Calculation of totals has been disabled." I went into settings, then into more options, and unchecked the box "hide totals in student grades summary." This should have solved the problem.. However, me and my students are still unable to see their calculated grades. How can I get this resolved?

What you describe should have fixed the issue.  Are you sure you clicked the Update Course Details button after making that change?  It's also weird that you would not be able to see them.  That check box should only affect what the students see.  You might want to check with your local Canvas admin as well to see if they did some sort of custom setting to hide this information.

I have the same issue. The "Hide totals in student grades summary" is not checked yet my students cannot see their totals.

It sounds like troubleshooting is underway, but I have one more thing to toss into consideration before or as you speak with your local Canvas Admin -- Within Course Settings, is the enable Course Grading Scheme box checked?

This is yet another reason why the Canvas programmers should fix the issues related to hiding important settings until "More Options."  Here are my recommendations:

1. As an intermediate solution, GET RID OF THE EXTRA CLICK FOR "MORE OPTIONS" IN THE COURSE SETTINGS. Just list the options on the main Course Details page. What is the rationale for the extra click? Why hide everything in a link with tiny blue letters? 
2. Move the following items to Gradebook. Just add them to the Gear Icon, where instructors can set the grading policy for late and missing items. THE GEAR ICON IS LOGICAL PLACE FOR GRADE-RELATED COURSE POLICIES.

I found it! You go to the overall course settings; click on more options at the very bottom. There you will see the option to click a box next to "hide totals in student grade summary." Make sure to UNCLICK that box.

As for what Kristin said above, I think that's if you want the letter grade to show as well.
