Student submission downloaded zip file also saved in My Files

We had a student whose file quota was massively over limit.  Turns out, this long time student had downloaded zip files of all assignment submissions several times over the years using the feature in Account/Settings.  Unknown to the student, and not mentioned in the Canvas documentation How do I download assignment submissions from all ... - Instructure Community - 298, each was also saved into the Data Export folder in My Files.  Easy to delete but there is no warning the files will be saved there, instead it says you have 30 days to do the download.

My hope is that Instructure will read this message and correct the documentation which only says you have limited time to download the file.

It's very distressing for students to try to embed a picture in a discussion the first week of class only to be told they're over quota, and finding no large media files that can be deleted to make room. Deleting the zip files saved the day but it took us a while to find the source of the problem.

Hi there, @Nancy_Webb_CCSF ...

Very interesting!  What you'll want to do, though, in order for the Documentation Team to update that particular Guide, is to fill out a form that is linked near the bottom of that Guide.  Look for a blue button near the bottom of the Guide called "Leave Feedback".  Then, the form will open up on your screen where you can submit your feedback with any corrections and/or suggestions.  That form gets sent directly to the Documentation Team so that they can review your feedback and determine if anything should be updated in that Guide.

I hope this will be helpful to you!

Take care...be well.
