Text Box and PDF Submission at the Same Time: Info got deleted pls help

Hello there!
So my teacher had this assignment where we had to submit an image of something, so I did that in pdf form, and she also wanted us to submit an essay in the text box entry. I did both then I clicked submit.

I received an email from my teacher today saying that she did not get the essay but she did get the image. I wen on to the submission to see for myself and there is no text entry. Since both were recorded, and they were there when I clicked submit, is there a way I can recover the essay?

I do not have another copy of it because I typed it directly into the entry box. It would seem that maybe Canvas kept it somewhere? Hopefully?

Also what is Canvas LMS?

I'm so sorry to hear about your missing submission, @WendyApisdorf. The best place to ask for help is your school's student technology support team. It would be great if their vigilance extended to the Canvas Question Forum. Alas, it does not.

Thank you for replying, but, I mean yeah this did not really solve my issue, but I was asking for a more general informational answer, just like if the server keeps the info or is it deleted forever? If it does keep the info, stored somewhere, then I guess I would go to the school's tech team, but I doubt they would be able to do anything to access the canvas server.

Also if you mark this as resolved, can other people still reply?

Also wouldn't marking as resolved reduce the visibility of my post? And by consequence, that potentially would take away the opportunity of someone who does have knowledge of how the Canvas system server work from replying because it's been marked as resolved?

Hi there, @WendyApisdorf ...

I did some testing in my own sandbox course where I had an assignment that was configured to accept both a text submission and a file attachment.  I submitted the assignment two different times where I had attached a file and also added some text in the text box.  The submission really depends on which tab you are on and what gets submitted to your instructor.  For example, if you had attached a file via the "File Upload" tab and also added text via the "Text Entry" tab, if you click the "Submit Assignment" button on the "File Upload" tab, it will only submit the file and not the text entry.  Similarly, if you had attached a file to the "File Upload" tab and added text to the "Text Entry" tab but this time clicked the "Submit Assignment" button on the "Text Entry" tab, it would only submit the text entry...not the file from the "File Upload" tab.

The RCE (Rich Content Editor) can save text if you leave the page, but you'll want to read the section on "View Auto-Saved Content" near the bottom of this Guide: How do I add and modify text in the Rich Content E... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com).

You cannot submit both an entry in the text box and a pdf or attachment at the same time, in the same submission. You would need to do it as separate submission, as you lose what you type in the text box.

But my original question was: depending on how the website and servers behave, does Canvas store it somewhere, had they received the info?  or is it just gone forever?
