The Total column in Canvas Grade Book is not averaging correctly for assignments imported from Pearson MyLab-Math. I have it set to percentage, but the total column is still averaging as points earned divided by points possible, then displaying that percentage. This weights assessments with more questions higher than those with fewer questions. How can I set it to equally weight the percentages?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi @ReneeQuick ! Canvas's totaling always uses points earned and points possible. Within a single assignment group, different points possible always act as the weighting factor.
It looks like there are several ways to sync grades to Canvas from Pearson MyLab-Math. I am not sure if it's too late to adjust your sync settings, but I think the simplest way to weight all your synced assignments equally is by syncing the "assignment weighted score" from Pearson.
@ReneeQuick In Canvas, the assignment group subtotals (and the course total when assignment group weighting is off) are always calculated by dividing total points earned by total points possible. The only way to weight assignments equally is for them to be in assignment groups where all assignments have the same number of points possible; then assignment group weights can be used.
In your LTI, you may be able to switch how grades are synced to Canvas. Instead of "assignment raw score," you can choose "assignment weighted score" to normalize the points possible. (When I try to link to their documentation, my reply gets flagged for moderation.) I hope this works. It would be the most elegant solution.
