I created a folder and put files into it. But when I share the link for the folder with my students it says the folder is locked and they can't access any of the files. How do I unlock the folder?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I figured it out yesterday. All the files were published, but somehow the folder was not. Not sure how that happened, but I changed that and all is well. Thanks.

Hi @david_phillips Welcome to the Canvas Community.
That is frustrating.
I'm guessing that the copyright details might be missing, or that the files are not published.
Here's a guide that will help you https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12745-4152314032

How did you unlock the folder? Please include steps for doing this.
Got to the Files view (sidebar) and then where the files are there will be a unpublish symbol, for the folder it'll be unpublished even if the rest of the files have been published.
Again, a very late reply to an old thread, but still a problem: in my case, the file WAS published, and it was in the “Course Files” folder which I assume is inherently unlocked — I had to delete the file, delete a link on a page that pointed to it, THEN reupload the file, and add a link to the new file into the old page.
I imagine you're long past this but in case anyone else searches this thread -- I never did figure out how to unlock folders, but I created a new folder and dragged the files in there. Magically unlocked!
