When one exports a course, where does it go/how do I access the exported material?

Hello Sydney,

When you do a course export and see the "Your content has been exported " bar at the bottom, you will also see a link that says "New Export" above that.

The "New Export" is the link to the export file.  You must click on the link to download the file to your computer.  The exact location that it is saved on your computer depends on your browser settings.

The export will be a .zip file in IMS package format, meaning it will have a bunch of XML and other files inside.  It's intended to be imported into another Canvas or other LMS system, so it's not something you can just look at directly.

This is really poor UI design. "New export" tells the user that they can do a new export. Please, just change the link name to "download exported file"

Two things to note...

1. After you export a course, you should get an e-mail in your Inbox shortly after that letting you know the export is ready.  You can click on that link, and it will take you to the download.
2. You can refresh your export screen in your course, and the link text will change from "New Export" to "Course Export from ## minutes/hours ago".  If you later export the course (let's say hours later), you will see an additional link on this page...one for the export from earlier in the day and another for the export you just initiated.
