Why don't peer reviews show up in discussions?

I'm new to Canvas, so I probably just don't understand how it works, but a student reported that her peer review didn't show up in the discussion, and I now see that that is the way it is for all of them. Peer reviews don't appear in the discussion, although I can see them in the speed grader. And a bunch of students have replied to initial discussion posts, probably thinking they have done their peer reviews—but it turns out they haven't, according to Canvas.

Is this really the way it's supposed to work? I thought Discussion was supposed to be for, like, you know, discussion?
