How do I make groups available to students?

Many options: you can permit students to make their own groups, you can create groups and let students self-enroll, or you can create group and have Canvas enroll them, or you can create groups and you can enroll them.  Or any combination thereof!

In this case, I really think you should simply review the Groups Chapter in the Canvas Instructor Guide. This way you can choose how you want to work this.
