students picking up where they left off if booted out of a randomized quiz

Has anyone experienced this scenario and come up with a workaround?
A student who was given extra time on a quiz is booted out of the quiz due to a network/ wifi issue. Before they can log back in (there may be a lag between the boot and the resolution of the network issue), the extra time expires. The quiz is also randomized. Is there a way for the student to get back to where they left off with the time that was remaining reinstated and the answers they've already given up to that point being saved? Time-expiring and randomized questions seem to be the biggest impediments to this happening successfully. Thoughts?
