Does the print feature randomly pull questions just like if it were taken online?
Is it possible, in one print request, to obtain multiple versions of the assessment or would separate print requests need to be made?
If separate print requests are made when there are banks, will subsequent prints be different versions?
If banks are used, is a separate page with the answers automatically included since it is supposedly a random generated version?
Really great questions, @dbrace. If an Item Bank is set up to randomly print a question from the bank, it will do so to match what the on screen experience would be. You will need to generate multiple print quizzes for each unique quiz. It does not automatically print multiple versions from one request. Yes, each request will generate a new item bank question. A blank quiz does not automatically print an associated answer key.
Please note we are finishing up QA and making changes this week so that sample answer keys print all pages of the quiz. This is a current bug that is known and being fixed prior to release to production.
You can find additional details in the announcement here too: The Much Anticipated Printing Quizzes Option
Thank you, @SuSorensen, for answering my questions and for linking to the announcement from the "The Product Blog" portion of the "Product Roadmap".
If I may, I have a follow-up question based on the "Not Included" section of the announcement.
The "Not Included" section includes a "Print a 'one question at a time” experience note. What happens? Is the quiz printed as if the option was not enabled?
The not supported experience currently is that if a quiz is set to one question at a time, only the first question appears in the print out. As not included in this release, you would need to change the setting prior to printing and then you can switch it back.
We're looking forward to getting this into teacher's hands and hearing how the experience works or what could be better. I suspect real world experience will tell us a lot more!
[sigh] this is New Quizzes in our beta environment after I hit the 'Build' button. Do I need to report it? I've come to see these as not un-expected behaviour [end sigh]
Update: Reported to support yesterday (#07846304). They were able to replicate it. It has been escalated to L2. It may just be our instance of Canvas though and not impact other users.
OMG, this is HUGE!!! Not sure why this is coming out in a deploy, it really seems like this feature needs to be lifted up under the regular Release Notes. I'll take it either way, but if Institutions are using the Release Notes feature under the help menu, this is going to slip under people's radar and it is really, really big news and a feature that has been requested for a very long time.
That is a good observation @audra_agnelly. I do understand that something has changed recently regarding how work like issues/fixes/bugs/releases is being communicated and deployed for some larger features (New Quizzes is considered one of them), and something about it occurring in the specific feature user groups. If I find the information on that I'll post it here. I haven't got my head around it yet myself.
This feature has been moved to the Canvas Release Notes (2021-08-21).
Moving forward, we anticipate New Quizzes updates will most likely be in releases. Thanks for your patience as we continue to sort everything out. 🙂
Thanks,
Erin
Thank you for getting this running! A question for feature upgrade - currently if you have the quiz set to only show 1 question at a time when you go to print it only shows/prints the first question - it doesn't just print each question on 1 page; it only prints 1 page with the first question. To get all of the questions printed the settings for the whole quiz need to change (to not show only 1 question). You then need to go back and reset the setting for the online users.
Thank you!
I had asked about that experience (what happens if one question at a time is used) earlier in this thread.
The response can be found in this thread at https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Canvas-Releases-Q-A/Releases-Q-amp-A-2021-08-21-New-Quizzes-Instr....
