The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
This flowchart outlines how and when an instructor may use the posting policies feature to manage student grade visibility in a course.
To view and interact with the flowchart, click the attached PDF link.
Flowchart titled "Student Grade Visibility Flowchart" showing two main paths based on the assignment posting policy setting. If the instructor sets the posting policy to Automatic, any grades and feedback entered for an assignment are immediately visible to students without further action. If the posting policy is set to Manual, grades and feedback remain hidden from students until the instructor actively posts them. This ensures instructors can control when grades are released, for example after grading all submissions or making adjustments. The chart includes references to Canvas community documentation for further guidance on using and managing assignment posting policies.
