Analytics API / Metrics calculation logic

Hello, 

We are currently using the Analytics API provided in the Instructure Developer Documentation Portal to retrieve certain metrics-related data.

We would like to know if it’s possible to replicate these datasets using the Canvas Data Platform (CDP), instead of relying on API calls.

For example, could you please advise how to calculate course-level participation data using the datasets available in the Data Access Platform (DAP)? Specifically, can this be derived from the objects (mainly from canvas namespace) and datasets listed here: Canvas Data Platform Datasets?

Any guidance or documentation references on how to achieve this using DAP would be greatly appreciated.

Hello!

Thank you for the question! Unfortunately you cannot calculate course-level participation data from data available from DAP. It is aggregated from page_views and that is an aggregation of web_logs, which is already available from DAP, and mobile logs, which is not currently available form DAP.

May I ask you why would you want to replicate these datasets if it is already available through the Canvas API?
Would it help you if course-level participation data would be available through DAP?
