For assignments where the points_possible value is set to zero, I see that is a way to create an extra credit assignment. Is there any other explanation for setting up an assignment that way?
The reason I ask is that almost 10% of the assignments in the system have points_possible set to zero. That seems like a lot to me, but maybe that's normal.
Solved! Go to Solution.
@JimEgan Many teachers that I work with set zero points possible for completion assignments. Sometimes that's because they have a complex way of allowing some assignments to be missed, giving penalties for missed assignments that scale, etc. I typically encourage them to use positive integers for any assignment they want to include in calculations, but that doesn't always persuade them.

For the data warehouse, I was going to provide percentages (mean, min, max) for the assignments in addition to the points that are stored in Canvas. But I can't do that for an assignment with zero points possible. Guessing what the actual points possible value is won't work. At least I haven't found a way that is 100% reliable. Even the quizzes associated with these assignments say the points possible are zero.
