Feature: Adding Options.

Description: Canvas data structure currently does not allow students to select multiple options within one assignment limiting student choice of what and how they learn.

Problem: Canvas data structure for example under the Assignment category does not give students options to complete one assignment. For example, students cannot select between two options within one assignment to complete that assignment as currently structured. The course instructor would have to create another assignment. As presently constructed it narrows the scope of the student’s learning performance and restricts student-centered learning.

Desired Outcome: For Canvas to change the data structure to include options under the Assignment category, it might be a bad idea to change discussions and quizzes as well to have option for students to select from within on category.

Benefit: This would make Canvas more adaptable to learner needs, student-centered, and improves the platform’s equity and inclusion.

Chris, I did attempt to resubmit but it shows my idea is already submitted. Here is a recopy for you with one or two edits:

Problem: As constructed in Canvas within or under the Assignment category, students only have one option to complete an assignment. Students cannot select between two options within one assignment to complete said assignment as currently structured. Therefore, to achieve this, the course instructor has to create another assignment, which takes more time, and it narrows the scope of the student’s learning performance and restricts student-centered learning or choice, and Canvas functionality. 

Desired Outcome: Change Canvas data structure functionality under Assignment, Discussion, and Quizzes to give students more options within a learning category or feature.

Benefit: The benefit gives students more options within a learning category to express how they show and use knowledge and skills learned, as well as gives the Canvas platform more functionality and adaptability to student-centered learning.
