Hi everyone, I was doing some testing in our Canvas test environment around the Differentiation Tag feature and noticed something odd with the student count when filtering and tagging.
In one course that had 49 students, I filtered all students and selected them using the checkbox in the top left corner. It showed 123 selected. Then, when I added them into a single tag, it said 50 students added. None of these numbers reflected the actual student number.
I tested this in another course to see if it is a consistant issue across courses, and the issue persisted.
Has anyone else experienced this?
@IvanZheng I can confirm this. I also just used the select all checkbox and then manually unchecked all of the boxes. With all boxes unchecked, it told me I still had 19 selected (out of 19).
Additionally, the count of students with a tag seems to be incorrect. I tagged all students with the same tag and it shows 20 tagged though there are only 19 student enrollments (and no other roles enrolled).
I'm not sure if your school is set up like mine, however I found your are correct. When you have students assigned to more than 1 section it will count those students for each section they are assigned but will only add the tag 1 time. So, with 123 selected you have some students in 2 or 3 sections but they only get tagged 1 time. If you check the tag after adding, you'll should see the correct number. For the 50 students, when you only have 49, I did not see this with my classes but I'm wondering if it's adding a Test student or an Instructor.
@AngelaHetrick1 I was testing in a course where many students have more than a single section, but the total count was still adding up to more than the total number of section enrollments.
Here you can see there are 19 students, with 38 listed as selected, and we can see that not all are in two sections (with two being the max section enrollment in this example).
Hi everyone! Thanks for reporting this. A bug ticket has been created and we will get this addressed as soon as we can.
