Consolidation of NGSS (April 2022)

The Next Generation Science Standards is a unique set of standards that has multiple components that build upon each other. While we’ve always made NGSS Arranged by Disciplinary Core Idea (DCI) and NGSS Arranged by Topic available to our clients who license NGSS, we have also captured the Appendices/Matrices of the Three Dimensions—Disciplinary Core Ideas, Crosscutting Concepts, and Science & Engineering Practices. The documents below can be added to your license upon request, or for all new NGSS subscribers, they will now be included as part of our offering.

  • Achieve > NGSS Arranged by Disciplinary Core Idea (DCI) > Science (2013)
  • Achieve > NGSS Arranged by Topic > Science (2013)
  • Achieve > Matrix of DCI in NGSS > Matrix of DCI in NGSS (2013)
  • Achieve > NGSS Crosscutting Concepts Matrix (Appendix G) > Science (2013)
  • Achieve > NGSS Science & Engineering Practices Science and Engineering Practices Appendix F > Science (2013)
  • Achieve > NGSS Nature of Science Nature of Science Appendix H > Science (2013)
  • Achieve > NGSS Science, Technology, Society, and the Environment Science, Technology, Society, and the Environment Appendix J > Science (2013)

Going forward we will use the above documents as potential origin documents for states that have adopted or based their standards on NGSS.

How will this change impact the standards data?

We will be altering some origin/derivative relationships. The following changes will occur:

  • Origin: Achieve > NGSS with Three Dimensions > Science (2013)
    • Relationships to this document will be removed.
    • Replacement relationships will be made to: Matrix of DCI in NGSS; NGSS Crosscutting Concepts Matrix (Appendix G); and NGSS Science & Engineering Practices Science and Engineering Practices Appendix F.
  • Origin: Achieve > NGSS Crosscutting Concepts Crosscutting Concepts Appendix G > Science (2013)
    • Relationships to this document will be removed.
    • Replacement relationships will be made to NGSS Crosscutting Concepts Matrix (Appendix G).

Please note that we will not be changing any existing relationships to custom work done for a specific client need.

How will this change impact alignments?

Existing alignments between standards and assets will not change. However, if you are using your existing NGSS alignments to one of the two documents listed above in order to align to the state versions, you will want to migrate your alignments to the designated Origin document. AB Support is happy to help you with this.

When is this change taking effect?

The NGSS documents are available now. We will be rolling out the alterations to the origin/derivative relationships throughout 2022.

What action must I take?

If you would like to have the additional documents available in your license, please send a request to the Elevate Standards Alignment Support team to have all NGSS documents added to your account.

As indicated under “How will this change impact alignments?”, you may want to revisit your origin set of alignments. For assistance with this, please contact the Elevate Standards Alignment Support team.

How can I get more information?
