NGA Center: CCSSO Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Derivative Documents- Extended Data Scheme Move (February 2021)
NGA Center/CCSSO Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Derivative Documents: Extended Data Scheme Move
The following Documents were affected:
- NGA Center/CCSSO Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
- English Language Arts/Literacy (2010)
- Mathematics (2010)
- Derivatives of CCSSO English Language Arts and Mathematics captured prior to 2017.
What was the change?
New clarification statements were added to the affected Documents.
The clarification statements replaced clarifications currently represented in the following metadata:
- CSV/XLS Files: Extended Description
- XML: EXTENDEDTOPIC
- API: extensions
The clarification statements represent source data, such as the statement below, highlighted in yellow, from English Language Arts/Literacy (2010) > Kindergarten > CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.2.d:
http://www.corestandards.org/wp-content/uploads/ELA_Standards1.pdf
In Mathematics, the clarification statements represent source data such as the statement below, highlighted in yellow, from Grade 3 > CCSS.Math.Content.3.NF:
http://www.corestandards.org/wp-content/uploads/Math_Standards1.pdf
As well as the following statement in High School - Functions > CCSS.Math.Content.HSF-IF.B.4:
What was the scope of the change?
Documents
- Documents captured before 2017 that include Extended Data Scheme (file deliveries) and “extensions” (API) data will be updated.
- Documents captured beginning in 2017 will not need to be updated. The data already exists as separate statements (GUIDs) with the extender utilizations (e.g., clarification).
Statements
- CCSSO English Language Arts/Literacy will have approximately 48 new clarification statements spread across all grades.
- CCSSO Mathematics will have approximately 34 new clarification statements spread across all grades.
- The new statement count in derivative Documents captured prior to 2017 will vary. Derivatives that are verbatim CCSS will have the same count as CCSS. Some derivative Documents will have no new clarification statements and some will have considerably more than CCSS, such as West Virginia Mathematics, which will have over 400 new clarification statements.
Why was this change made?
This change provides consistency and predictability, which simplifies finding similar data across Documents.
When did this change take effect?
The change took effect on Friday, February 5, 2021, for the origin CCSS Documents.
Derivative Documents’ updates are also complete.
What action must I take?
You may want to update your system to reflect the new clarification statements. If your system already uses the Extended Data Scheme from file deliveries or the “extensions” from API, you may decide an update is not necessary.
