Hello, I am experiencing an issue that seems to be affecting not only me but also a large number of students in my course. When trying to access canvas.instructure.com, we encounter a blank screen regardless of the device being used (phone, computer, 5G, or Wi-Fi). We are unable to enter our email or password, as it just loads a blank page. I've noticed that this problem only occurs on Chromium-based browsers (like Chrome or Edge), while Mozilla Firefox works correctly.
It seems to be an issue related to Chromium, and I have attached some screenshots with the console log for further details. Any help or suggestions to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
Hey @calvache98 ,
Are you by chance logging in with an SSO provider (such as Google, Microsoft) instead of using traditional Canvas login credentials? I think that's what might be causing an issue here, and it might be a good idea to forward this to the engineering team.
Hope to hear back from you soon!
Noah
Hi @NoahBoswell,
Thanks for your response. However, the issue is not related to the login method. The Canvas link loads a blank screen, and none of us can even reach the login page to choose the login method (SSO, traditional login, etc.). This is affecting several students in my course.
I hope this helps clarify the issue, and I look forward to any suggestions.
Hi @calvache98 ,
Would you be able to provide the link to the Canvas screen thanks giving you the blank page? Usually an iad.instructure.com login URL (which is in your picture) doesn't appear until after you select a login method, at least to my understanding after testing it.
Thanks!
Hi @NoahBoswell,
Here is the link to the Canvas screen that is giving me the blank page:
I sent the incognito browser screenshots because the issue occurs even before selecting a login method. In Firefox, when I access the page, the frontend for login appears, but the link iad.instructure.com is already there, even before I choose the login method.
As you suggested, I think this issue might need to be forwarded to the engineering team.
Thanks!
@calvache98 Ok… this is interesting. Canvas.instructure.com is the only canvas instance I am experiencing this behavior from. You are correct, it automatically redirects to iad.login.instructure.com, but only for this canvas instance and not the others.
However, I am not experiencing any issues on my end, which is interesting. I wonder if it’s a region-specific thing? That’s a possibility.
Im going to go ahead and forward this to someone so it gets attention. Of course, not being able to log into Canvas is an issue.
Thanks for your patience!
Thanks for forwarding this to the team and for your attention to the issue. I really appreciate your help.
Just to add, before, I could reload canvas.instructure.com several times and eventually it would work. But now, no matter how many times I try, it just doesn’t load anymore.
Thanks again for your patience, and I look forward to any updates.
Hey @calvache98 ,
I just found out that there’s some stuff going on behind the scenes that’s impacting users being able to login.
Im still waiting to hear back about the best way to go about this for now. Your patience is really appreciated!!
Thanks so much for the update! I really appreciate your efforts in looking into this. I’ll be here waiting for any updates or news regarding this issue.
Thanks again for your help!
Alright @calvache98 ...
I got a response back for you! They recommend clearing your cache and cookies, as well as ensuring Chrome is up-to-date. I'm also going to provide you a link to a document with some additional information about browser requirements, to help you ensure everything on your end is compatible with what Canvas needs to work properly.
I hope this is some help to you! Of course, please reach back out with any additional questions or concerns, or if something still doesn't seem to work. Please let me know if you're able to get in after doing so!
Oh, and one more thing, I recommend logging in on firefox only right now, if that's the only browser that works for you. If you're able to log in, you are encouraged to create a technical support ticket by clicking the help link on your global navigation menu, and clicking report a problem and filling out the form (note, you must be enrolled in at least one course with the teacher role for this link to appear). It is also recommended that you attach the link to this discussion thread, too.
Noah
Hi @NoahBoswell,
Thanks for the update! I just wanted to clarify that I had already cleared my cache and cookies, and ensured Chrome was up-to-date before, which is why I sent the incognito mode screenshots earlier. Chrome was working fine before this issue started.
I’ll go ahead and send the support ticket through Firefox as you suggested. Thanks again for all your help with this!
Happy to help, and good to know.
All the best to you!
