How to change the name of a student listed under "People"?

Hi all,

I have a problem where a student's email address does not match the user's correct name. I can't figure out how to edit the student's correct name.

Example:

Under "people" I have two students with the same name listed
Bob Smith (correct and correct email is assigned). 
Bob Smith (not correct, Sara Evans should be listed).
- when I click on the above link oddly the students correct name is listed

When I edit the details everything is fine...Sara Evans is displayed with the correct email.

Hi @BrianSchwahn ,

Thank you for posting on the Instructure Community!

Since you are using the free for teachers Canvas Instance, you're not exactly able to change the name of the account from your teacher account. Instead, to get the name changed, your student would need to sign into their account themselves, click the 'Account' link via their global navigation bar, click 'Settings' and then on the right-hand side click 'Edit Settings'. From there, they can change the name in the name box. Once they're done, they can click update, and everything should be good to go!
