Hi,
I am using a Free-for-Teacher canvas account as an instructor and I recently noticed a canvas support button in the bottom right corner of the screen.
On some pages within modules, the button can get very in the way of the next button in the same location.
At first I assumed it would only show up for me, but when testing the course as a student, I wound up running into the same issue. Is there any way to disable this button so that it does not get in the way of my students?
Solved! Go to Solution.
The support icon is working correctly now within canvas.instructure.com and k12.instructure.com. You should be able to move it on the right side of the page to your preference. If the inability to move the icon returns, please give us that feedback.
As a reminder to our FFT users, the support icon serves as an opportunity to get in-app support for features and functionality for our many, many FFT users. Because this particular environment does not have dedicated support personnel, this provides crucial support capabilities for those who need it.
As always, thank you for your patience and understanding, and thanks for utilizing Canvas Free-for-Teacher.
The problem is NOT solved. The button still hovers over the comment section of grading and is not movable. There are arrows, but they do not work. When you click the arrows, it opens the help feature.
Please make an option in the settings to permanently remove it from a teachers page.
Hi @keathlm , I tried to PM you but you do not have it enabled. I'm happy to help troubleshoot and see this unintended behavior. If you either enable PM and message me or pass along your login/email (for accessing FFT) here, I can reach out and troubleshoot.
Thanks for the offer to help. Although, i'm not sure what we would trouble shoot on my end? Without the ability to remove the button, I don't think there is any solution here. I also don't see where to enable PM, I've never used the community feature here until now.
@keathlm ...
The PM (Private Messaging) feature is available at the top right corner of any page here in the Canvas Community website. Just click on the envelope icon at the top right corner of the screen, and you can send a private message to someone...provided you know their username. It's nothing that you have to "enable"...it's just a standard thing here in the Community that everyone has access to.
Hope this helps.
Hi.
The new Help icon (box with a question mark) is in the middle of the screens (laptops, ipads, and phones). Is there anyway you put this somewhere else, say the left side of the screen because even having it on the right side previously would get in the way of the links on the right side of the screen. Yesterday I needed to print hard copies of my materials I have stored in Canvas to give to a tutor to help with a student and every page I printed had the icon (box with the question mark) on my papers. I have included screen shots from both my laptop screen and phone to show you where this icon is popping up at. Additionally I noticed yesterday this icon was in the middle of the screens of my students on their iPads too. It does not allow me to move it at all. I have included screen shots. Also i am working out of the free version.
Thank you.
Kevin, it is not the up and down relocation that is needed, but a relocation of the icon else where on the Canvas screen--either to the menu alone or to the left, bottom, or top side as well. The right side of the page is often where the Edit, Submit, or other buttons are located and having to constantly move the Impact icon is a pain.
Kate asked about REmoving it, not moving it. We want the thing GONE. It's useless, and annoying.
The "support button" is movable but only up and down on the right-hand side of the screen. Can your team make a collapsible "support button" so that it can be hidden?
Hi all, thanks for the feedback here. We've customized the size and location of the support icon. It's now smaller and aligned to the right-hand sidebar. This should be less intrusive given the feedback. We cannot remove this altogether as the support center serves many, many people every day to give them contextual help. We know that given additional feedback. Thank you for understanding.
Any chance there may be some consideration for allowing instructors to dismiss or collapse the button?
I have not seen anything recently about this topic. We use the paid version of Canvas at our high school, and the support button just appeared this school year. Many of our teachers have complained because it is not in a good location, and we cannot move it. It there anything being done about relocating this button? We have the help button in the Global Navigation menu, so not sure why we need something else that just gets in the way.
Why can't this floating support icon be removed? I have never used it and can't see myself using it. Instead, I frequently have to move it out of the way because it's blocking something I want to do. I just don't get how this is a smart UI decision. I called my faculty support line and asked how to remove it and they commented that they get lots of calls from faculty asking the same thing.
Faculty, at least, should have the option to hide it or toggle it off. It serves zero purpose for me, and is a constant annoyance.
