Thank you to all participants of #InstCon23 who joined our session on Thursday 27 July to hear how at Queen’s University Belfast we are working to improve the student digital experience by implementing minimum standards in Canvas through a student-driven co-design process.

In today's digital age, an important objective for many institutional VLEs is to improve consistency of use and so we embarked on a student-driven, co-design journey. The focus of the project was to provide a solution that would improve the user experience for all students ensuring greater consistency in the way that Canvas is used at Queen’s University Belfast.

To better understand requirements and user needs, several user research activities were conducted to establish what students really want when accessing their course materials online and how we could do better in terms of making content easier to discover and use.

This project's success lay in the collaborative efforts of students and staff. By involving students in the process, we recognised the significance of their perspectives. Their valuable feedback and insights allowed us to truly understand what they expected in Canvas and would significantly improve the student digital experience.

The journey towards designing for consistency in Canvas demonstrates the power of co-design with students, proving to be a powerful tool in fostering a better learning environment. Embracing student-driven projects can truly be a game-changer in delivering an enriching and fulfilling experience for everyone involved.

We were overwhelmed with the positive response to our session at #InstCon23 and deeply appreciative of those who took the time to provide valuable feedback and engage in insightful conversations with us.
