Publish/Unpublish Assignments/Quizzes in Canvas Mobile Apps

Idea open for vote Wed. February 3, 2016 - Wed. May 4, 2016  Learn more about voting...

Teachers should be able to publish and unpublish assignments/quizzes inside the Canvas iOS/Android Mobile apps. This could be similar to the cloud icon that's already present on the web.

Use case: A teacher notices and issue with their assignment or quiz. Instead of having to struggle with the mobile web, or find a computer, it would be nice to quickly tap a button to unpublish an assignment or quiz until they can fix it at a later date.

This idea will remain in the open voting forum as an idea related to Priority: Canvas Teacher App.

*Being a related idea does not guarantee it is slated for development, instead it indicates that the idea is related to the overall scope and is being used to inform the process.

Good call on this feature,  @rseilham ‌! Why shouldn't teachers be able to manage basic elements of their course remotely too? #canvasteacher_new

I need this. Enough said.

This is coming to the Canvas Teacher app later this year, with many other options to control content. #canvasteacher_new

This would also make it possible to use quizzes as a polling tool. You can create a few quizzes with one or more questions ahead of time, and publish them during class when you want to check the understanding of your students. This is already possible if the teacher has access to a laptop or is using the mobile site. The results of quizzes are saved in the gradebook, and it's easy to communicate with students that have low or high grades from the gradebook. This is not possible with Canvas polls.

That's a great idea. Like you said, it's something you can do now, but it requires a laptop in class. Luckily, it appears this will be part of the Teacher app.

Thank you for sharing this idea with the Instructure Community!

The Product Team reviewed all feature proposals recently, and unfortunately, this thread was identified as one that they would not be able to include in their current or future plans. While we appreciate your proposal, we also want to be transparent about the likelihood of something like this making it to production.

Thank you for collaborating, and we hope that you submit another idea in the future!
