Short code to add first name within announcements

This may already be a thing but announcements could be more engaging and personal if we could insert a short code field that would insert the students name into the announcement. There may be other information that would be great to insert as well but names would be nice touch I think particularly during this time when we are all separated from each other.

Adding my support for this idea. It is something that is possible in D2L, and I'd love to see Canvas make it a priority.

I definitely think replacement strings should be available full stop across the platform.  We are increasingly in the interactive and immersive education world where personalised content makes all the difference to student engagement.

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
