Show a broken link’s display text and URL in the Link Validator

This idea has been developed and deployed to Canvas

When the Link Validator identifies broken links, it would be very useful to include the link text (if any) in the report, to help identify the link on the page.

Currently:

  • It can be difficult to identify which link needs to be updated, especially when there are multiple links to the the same site on the page.
  • Links that have been removed via the WYSIWYG often remain in the HTML and then get flagged by the Link Validator. It would be useful to have some indication that these are in fact blank, 'ghost' links.

The current system often requires that staff use the HTML view and understand which aspects of the code to edit, or use the HTML view to identify the broken link, and then switch back to the WYSIWYG view to do the editing.
