BETA new "Manage assign to" not allowing to add individual users on edit page for assignments

Canvas

This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 8/14/24.

Description

  • The “assign to” overhaul to be released later this month and in beta right now does not preemptively load the list of users in the course to add to an assignments overrides while you’re attempting to manage them on the assignments edit page if you have previously assigned it to only a portion of the class beforehand.

    • The feature does work correctly if you have the “everyone” or “everyone else” options in the current overrides when you go to edit it.

    • The students still show up under this circumstance when managing the overrides from the assignments index or description page however.

Expected Behavior

To be able to use the “Manage assign to” option on the assignments edit page and have the list of current students pre-populate for selection when doing so after having previously assigned it to a sub-selection of the course.

Workaround

  • Use the "Assign to" button works from the assignments description page.

  • Remove the current student and start typing the first 3 letters of the student you want to add to populate them in the list.

Steps to Reproduce

Prereq: A course in beta with students enrolled.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create an assignment.

  2. Go into edit it

  3. Click on Manage assign to on the bottom of the page.

  4. Replace the “everyone” override with a specific student from the list.

  5. Save and save the assignment.

  6. Edit it again and open the manage assign to and try to add another student

  7. Notice none of the students in the course show up in the list by default.
