End-of-Year Planning for Mastery Connect Trackers and Assessments

END OF YEAR | UNDERSTANDING WHAT TO EXPECT 

MASTERY CONNECT 

  • Mastery Connect trackers will automatically archive during the summer months.

  • Teachers do not need to do anything with their trackers at the end of the year due to this process being done automatically.

PRO TIP: Do not delete any tracker that has data in it. Let all archived trackers with data live in your Archived tab. This will allow you and other teachers to look at historical data.

CANVAS + MASTERY CONNECT | PREPARATIONS FOR NEXT YEAR

PREP COURSE CONTENT IF YOU PLAN TO USE THE CONTENT NEXT YEAR

If you plan to use the same course next year then you will want to make sure you have followed the steps below to ensure your new Canvas + Mastery course has everything it needs without the additional unlinked Mastery Connect assessments from the prior year. As a reminder Mastery Connect assessments link to your Canvas course through the tracker. 

STEPS FOR PREPARING YOUR CANVAS COURSE FOR COPYING

Mastery Connect assessments link to your Canvas course through your tracker. Therefore, you will not want to copy your Mastery Connect assessments into a new Canvas course. Instead we recommend you create an assignment group called “Mastery Connect Assessments,” and then move all Mastery Connect assessments into this group. This makes it easier to avoid copying over Mastery Connect assessments that won't be linked. **If using assignment weights, do not complete these steps until after grades are posted.

STEPS

  • Click Assignments

  • Click + Group

  • Create a group called "Mastery Connect Assessments"

  • Move all Mastery Connect assessments to the group called "Mastery Connect Assessments"

Note: This is important because if you copy the assessments into a new course they will not be attached to the tracker so they therefore will not be able to be used. 

PRO TIP: Assignments are automatically added to the first assignment group in the assignment index, so making "Mastery Connect Assessments" the first group prior to creating a tracker is a great practice.

CANVAS + MASTERY CONNECT | COPYING COURSE CONTENT OPTION 1

COPYING CANVAS COURSE CONTENT AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR

This option will allow teachers to work on their course content during the summer. 

STEPS

  • Choose Settings from the Course Navigation.

  • Choose Copy this Course on side bar.

  • Add "Prep 23-24" to the beginning of the Name and Course Code.

  • Choose Select specific content.

  • Choose whether you want to Adjust events and due dates (recommended).

    • If you selected Adjust events and due dates, you may choose to Shift dates or Remove dates.

    • It is recommended to Remove dates and add due dates in the 2023-2024 school year.

  • Choose Create Course.

  • Since you selected Select specific content, you will need to choose the Select Content button and choose what you would like to import into your course (make sure you do not select the "Mastery Connect Assessments" under the Assignments section).

  • Your Current Job queue can take some time to export, depending on how large the course is.

CANVAS + MASTERY CONNECT | COPYING COURSE CONTENT OPTION 2

COPYING CANVAS COURSE CONTENT INTO YOUR NEWLY-GENERATED SIS COURSE

Keep in mind that if you choose this option, you must wait until your 2023-2024 courses are created, which would be at the beginning of the school year. 

STEPS

  • Open your newly created SIS Course.

  • Choose Settings from the Course Navigation

  • Choose Import Course Content on side bar.

  • In the Content Type drop down menu, choose Copy a Canvas Course.

  • In the Search for a course drop-down menu, choose the course you want to import from. 

  • Be sure to select Include completed courses.

  • Choose the course you want to copy from under the previous school year.

  • Choose Select specific content.

  • Choose whether you want to Adjust events and due dates (recommended).

    • If you selected Adjust events and due dates, you may choose to Shift dates or Remove dates.

    • It is recommended to Remove dates and add due dates in the 2023-2024 school year.

  • Choose Import.

  • Since you selected Select specific content, you will need to choose the Select Content button and choose what you would like to import into your course (make sure you do not select the "Mastery Connect Assessments" under the Assignments section).

  • Your Current Job queue can take some time to export, depending on how large the course is.

FINAL THOUGHTS

As a reminder, any assessments you have used this year can be used again next year. You will just need to add these assessments to your new tracker in the next school year. For our Canvas + Mastery users the steps mentioned in this blog post will help to ensure that your next school year’s Canvas course does not have unusable assessments.
