Changing Quiz grade after number of points are changed for quiz
I made my first 2 New Quizzes and did not notice that the default for # of points was 0 (which is an odd way to do things, to say the least). The students took the quizzes but everyone got 0 points. I changed the point value for the quizzes to what they are supposed to be. Everyone still has zero points. I do not see a way to give them their points that does not involve a huge amount of time and effort on my part. It is not a regrade, since the quizzes were already graded correctly in terms of the scoring the questions. I did not change the questions, so no regrade is triggered. I just need Canvas to assign the scores properly in the Grade book. How do I do that?

Hi @kevin_redding,
As you've discovered, the assignment point value and quiz point value can be different in New Quizzes. For the most part you'll want to make sure the point values in the assignment details and quiz builder match, but there are scenarios where an instructor would want to have a quiz with questions worth 20 points that only counts for 10 points in the Gradebook or vice versa. The assignment point value is what will display in the Gradebook.
While what you're trying to do isn't technically a regrade, you can fix the assignment point value using the regrade tool. To do this, open the assignment details page for the quiz and enter the correct total point value, then click Save. Next follow the regrade instructions to regrade any question on any student's submission. You won't be making any changes to the correct answer or point value and will keep the option to "Award credit for correct answer only"--the regrade just serves to push the assignment point value change to the Gradebook. Once the regrade is applied, refresh the page and you should see the total point value and student scores updated in the Gradebook.

Thanks very much, Rebecca -- that was very helpful! It does seem to be working, although it seems to be taking some time for all the regrades to filter down to the Grade book.
I have to say, though... following those instructions on that link was perhaps the most convoluted, opaque series of steps imaginable! That is about as far from transparent or intuitive as one could get. (I almost felt like a spy in a bad movie being given instructions to defuse a bomb... Don't cut the red wire!) Is this the best Canvas can do?...
