I am a student and in one course I am currently taking we have quizzes where the categorization and sorting style questions are used. One thing the instructor and students have noticed is this type of question does not have the option to receive partial credit for partially correct answers. As a student this is frustrating because other styles of questions reward partial credit whereas this type marks the entire question wrong even if the student has selected some correct answers. Is it possible to offer partial credit as an option for instructors to select on these questions so that faculty does not have to go back in manually and award it? This would allow for a better reflection of the students' knowledge in their grades and save faculty time who are manually awarding the partial credit.

Hey @KLS2003 !
Nice to see you involved in the Canvas Community. While several of the question types in New Quizzes do have partial credit options that instructors are able to adjust, Categorization and Sequencing question types do not currently appear to have the ability to adjust for partial points. There are actually numerous posts in the Community relating to partial credit for these question types and I believe that it is on the radar for the people that decide and make those changes. Fingers crossed that it could happen soon.
No, categorization and ordering questions currently do not have partial vs all/nothing credit as an option. (That's confirmed in notes at start of How do I create a Categorization question in New Quizzes? and How do I create an Ordering question in New Quizzes? )
There is an idea to implement that.
Hello @jfward1,
This is a request that Instructure has heard a number of times since the launching of the New Quizzes tool. There is a Feature Idea that should hopefully be back up for voting on by the end of the year. Now, if your instructor is using the classic Quizzes tool, there is no chance of changes to that tool (as New Quizzes are being built to replace Quizzes).
In short, there is nothing that will happen near-term, but this is an idea that is generally supported by the Canvas community and I imagine it is one Instructure will get to when they are able to.

HI, the categorization questions really helpful in my assignments - however with these questions they do not offer partial credit and instead counts the full question wrong. Is there a way to assign partial credit to them?

In one of my classes, we have weekly quizzes, and each quiz contains 1 categorization sorting question using drop down boxes. It it a three part question. Last quiz, I only missed one part, but it counted me off for the whole question. Many other students in my class are concerned about this, since it brings down our grade when we know the material. I think having a partial credit option will be beneficial for students since it will showcase our knowledge of the material more and reflect it in our grade. Our professor said to contact Canvas about our concerns to have this changed.
Thank you for your time.

Infuriating. This has been promised for a long time, but for now, New Quizzes is just fancier multiple choice questions until the different question types are actually functional.
