At Instructure, we continuously strive to enhance our products to deliver an exceptional experience for educators, learners, and administrators alike. Based on your valuable feedback, we’re excited to announce two key updates to Canvas Catalog: a redesigned checkout experience and new options for managing the "Self-paced" label. These improvements are now available in beta and will be live in production starting next week.
Redesigned Checkout Experience
As mentioned in my earlier blog post, Exciting Updates in H2 2024, we’ve been working to streamline the checkout process. Feedback highlighted confusion during registration, especially for new users unfamiliar with the flow.
We’re thrilled to announce that the new checkout process is rolling out. The updated design ensures a smoother, more intuitive experience, helping users navigate the registration process effortlessly. New users who are not already registered with Canvas will now receive immediate instructions after enrolling, prompting them to check their email for next steps.
What This Means for You:
- Improved clarity: Clearer guidance for users after course enrollment.
- Smoother onboarding: A user-friendly registration process that minimizes roadblocks.
- Reduced support needs: Fewer questions and troubleshooting from learners about registration.
This update reflects our commitment to creating a seamless, frustration-free experience for all users, whether they’re experienced Canvas users or just starting their journey.
Greater Customization with the “Self-paced” Label
The Challenge:
Many institutions requested more flexibility in how courses are presented, particularly the ability to hide the "Self-paced" label on storefronts and listing pages. For some, this label wasn’t relevant or aligned with their branding strategy.
The Solution:
We’ve introduced a new setting in Canvas Catalog that allows administrators to toggle the visibility of the "Self-paced" label. This setting provides greater control over course presentation, ensuring each institution’s unique needs are met.
How It Works:
- Catalog info settings:
- A new option, “Hide Self-paced Label on Details Page and Storefront,” is now available.
- This setting can be applied at both root and subaccount levels and is inheritable for consistent application.
- Administrators can access the setting on the new Account Info page.
- Storefront and listings pages:
- The "Self-paced" label will be hidden on both legacy and new listing cards, as well as the details page, when the account setting and feature flag are enabled.
- Checkout page:
- In the View Summary modal, the "Self-paced" label will also be hidden if this setting is activated.
What This Means for You:
- Tailored branding: Institutions can align course presentation with their branding and messaging strategies.
- Streamlined experience: Learners encounter only the most relevant information, ensuring clarity and focus.
