We’re excited to introduce the Instructor Field in Canvas Catalog. This new feature allows admins to clearly display who is leading each course, improving transparency and helping learners make more informed enrollment decisions using criteria they care deeply about.
Students care about who is teaching a course when they’re browsing course offerings, because they know their instructor determines their learning experience more than anything else. Previously, Canvas Catalog did not offer a dedicated or structured way to display instructor names on course listings. Admins often used inconsistent workarounds such as adding names in course descriptions or titles. As a result, students lacked clarity when browsing offerings and had no consistent way to evaluate who was teaching each course.
This update addresses those gaps by making instructor information a visible and reliable part of the course listing experience.
For admins
This feature simplifies and standardizes how instructor information is presented. It removes the need for manual formatting and improves consistency across listings.
For students
Instructor names are now visible during course discovery, helping students feel more confident in their choices by giving them visibility into the people behind the course who will be shaping their learning experience.
For institutions
This is an opportunity to highlight the quality and reputation of your faculty or facilitators. It supports marketing goals, drives engagement, and aligns well with continuing education strategies where instructor visibility plays a major role.
