At the end of Q2 2022 we are going to sunset the Portfolium CNAME support.

A Canonical Name or CNAME record is a type of DNS record that maps an alias name to a true or canonical domain name. When a user attempts to access a domain name that is actually an alias, the DNS system substitutes the real domain name — known as the Canonical Name — for the alias. A few institutions have set up a custom version of Portfolium on their school’s website for this purpose which after Q2 2022 will not be supported any more.

We're discontinuing this feature because we've noticed that very few of our users are getting value out of it and it also raises some security risks. Unless institutions replace this custom version of Portfolium with another site, it will behave as a non-existing website and show an error message.

All schools currently leveraging this tool should have received an email with details on their specific URL. If you have any further questions or concerns about CNAME, please let your CSM know about it.

@zsgoreczky

This morning I received a prompt to Update Portfolium. Does the update apply to the sunsetting of CNAME support or is there some new feature or change?

Thank you

Hi @joe_fahs
Very likely that prompt is not related to CNAME. If you had Portfolium open and in the meantime there was a new version released, we would show you the prompt to get Portfolium refreshed so you get the new version. If that's not the case, please feel free to send me a screenshot of the prompt (my email address is zsgoreczky@instructure.com) and we are happy to look into it. Thank you!

@zsgoreczky Yes, that is the case. I clicked UPDATE, and the screen refreshed.

The black pop-up bar in the lower-left corner of the browser window read

"A new version of Portfolium is available! UPDATE"

The first time this happened (for my account and a test account). Just curious if there is a new feature or maintenance update.
