What’s Changing

We’re thrilled to announce a new update to Canvas Credentials Pathways, coming your way on August 5. You’ll now have the power to leave badge requirements empty at the step level. This change is all about making your pathways more versatile and less constrained by rigid requirements.

Why This Update Matters

Your feedback was clear: the previous requirement to assign a badge to every step sometimes restricted your ability to create effective and flexible learning pathways. This update aims to address that by simplifying the process and allowing for more customised pathway designs.

What’s New?

  • Enhanced Flexibility: You no longer need to attach a badge requirement to every step. This allows for more varied and adaptable pathway structures.
  • Easier Pathway Creation: Design pathways with optional steps or different progression models without being limited by mandatory badge requirements.

Share Your Feedback!

How does this enhancement improve your experience with Canvas Credentials Pathways? Are there new ways you can utilize this flexibility? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

Thank you for your ongoing feedback and support. We hope this update makes your pathway creation more intuitive and effective. Stay tuned for more improvements!

Best,

The Canvas Credentials Team

This is welcome news Dora! The required badge for each step in a pathway has been a hurdle for some of our users, so hearing that it is being addressed is great!

Can you give a little sneak peak into how those non-badge steps would be marked as complete in the pathway? What is now going to be triggering that step completion?

  • Manual checking off the step for each user in the Credentials interface?
  • Ability to link to a step via the LTI and use the same triggers that are present there?
  • An API endpoint to flow a step completion that way?

Regardless, it is a very exciting update!
