In the beta environment I enabled the feature option 'Performance and usability upgrades for Speedgrader' in a course. Then I compared the Speedgrader interface on beta with the interface on production ('old' Speedgrader). I noticed that the visibility icon and the options in the menu are different from production for the same assignment. On beta (new Speedgrader), they are incorrect.
For example:
1. An existing assignment with manual posting policy for which all grades are posted.
New speedgrader:
Old Speedgrader:
2. An existing assignment with automatic posting policy for which all grades are posted.
New Speedgrader:
Old Speedgrader:
Then I created two new assignments on beta:
1. An assignment with automatic posting policy. I graded some students. The visibility icon shows as hidden and the text in the dropdown menu also says 'all grades are hidden' (incorrect):
2. An assignment with manual posting policy. I graded some students. In this situation the visibility icon and the texts in the dropdown menu are correct:
Additional information: the information about posted or hidden grades in the assignment options menu in Gradebook are correct in all examples. So this mismatch with the status of the visibility icon really seems an issue of new Speedgrader.
Hi @ellen_peters. Thank you so much for sharing this. Let me have our team look into the issue.
Yasi
I just wanted to add that I'm experiencing the same issue in our own LMS. The behavior is identical to what has been described here, and it's causing similar challenges for us.
If anyone has found a workaround or a solution, I'd really appreciate it if you could share it here.
Thanks in advance!
@EssieVdp @ellen_peters Thanks for your patience.
We've been able to reproduce the issue with the visibility icon and menu text in the new SpeedGrader, and we’re actively working on a fix. We’ll keep you posted once it’s resolved.
Really appreciate you taking the time to surface this!
Hi, is there any updates on fixing this issue?
Hi @JingZou. Yes our team is working on it now.
The new Speed Grader is really confusing and less compact / harder to use on a computer with a small screen.
1. The visibility icon is wrong - I have assignments in which the grades post automatically AND I have double-checked and clicked post all grades. Right now, in this assignment, the visibility icon has the eye with a line across it but "all grades are hidden" is grayed out. In the gradebook it says automatically for grade posting policy.
2. The option to give a 0 grade for a quiz not completed is no longer available. Now it is a 2-step process - leave a grading comment in the Speed Grader and then go back to the Gradebook to put in the 0. I do not use assign 0 automatically - it causes too much confusion on the student end when they have been given extensions, etc.
3. The Status next to the grade is awkward.
4. I have noticed that my comments are invisible if a student adds a response comment - the Speed Grader used to show a string of the comments that was easier to navigate.
The new Speed Grader seems to be more complicated with less functionality. Is there a way to opt back to the older version?
